Overhead: The crane operates overhead, meaning its primary structure (the bridge) runs on elevated rails (the runway beams) fixed to the building’s support columns or a dedicated support structure. • 3. Traveling (or Travelling): This refers to the crane’s ability to move horizontally along its runway. This longitudinal movement (often called the “X” axis) is a key feature distinguishing it from stationary lifting devices.

1. The Bridge: The main horizontal beam(s) that span the width of the bay. It travels along the runway rails (the X-axis movement).
